Hi.
Some of us have a great asset: we are both native speakers of English and fluent in Japanese. That means that we have options beyond just teaching English.
Personally, I'm interested in getting some translation work on the side, but don't have much of an idea of how to get started.
Any ideas? Anyone interested in teaming up?

Getting freelance translation work often happens just through connetions... but you can check the JAT list, site for J-E bilingual job hunters (daijob, ecentral, etc), or just start sending your resume around. Most jobs are for full time though. Are you looking to jump into translation as a career, or just pick up some work on the side? |

Look in The Japan Times (paper and online ads, they are different). Translation jobs appear fairly often.
What is your area of expertise? Many translation jobs I have seen call for some specialization, whether in engineering or finance or publishing, etc. |

For anyone interested,
I'm not inclined to technical translation (can't do that in my own language!), but anything else is fine.
Thanks for the Japan Times tip. (I never read the news- no news is good news |

To that, I would also add The Daily Yomiuri (English print version). Their weekly "Jobs" supplement usually has a number of ads both in English and Japanese. |
