From what I have read, a bachelor's degree is the bare minimum. Should I bother trying to get some kind of certification (TEFL, TESOL)? How long does that usually take and can I get that while in Taiwan (I already bought a plane ticket and don't have much time)? Basically, I want to know if I can find a job with just a college degree and not much experience.
My background:
American Born Chinese from U.S.
4 yr. Bachelor's degree
ESL tutor in high school
700+ SAT english (I heard that some people put that on their resume)
Able to speak Mandarin on a coversational level.
I already spent five months in Taiwan earlier this year, but ended up working in a different capacity. I had little concern about finding a teaching job until my mom and relatives became convinced I needed a "certificate" (they are never specific - I suspect because they don't know what they are talking about) to get an "official" teaching job, whatever that means.
Are they right? Should I delay my flight? |
