Okay, so here's the situation...
Well, it's not really a situation but more like fishing for feedback. You guys know I've recently finished my dang dissertation and got the dang degree conferred on top of my head like a bucket of confetti. And now my local friends are telling me that here in Taiwan, PhDs can do virtually anything.
Anything?
Yeah, anything.
Wanna start a business? Even if it has absolutely nothing to do with English teaching? No problem!
Need venture capitalists to help you get your electric car company started? Hey, no sweat! You've got a PhD, right?
Want to get a cushy job at some impossible place like NTU or NCKU? No biggie; they'll be beating down your door since you've got that degree in your hands.
So... how true is this really? |

Nice Photo!!!
Couldn't really answer all your questions but one private school I knew that was having problems with parents who complained about about too much Art and Story-telling in class, called in a Ph.D from America(ABT, American Born Taiwanese) to assess the children's ability and once the parents found out that the kids far exceeded the norm, by way of testing from the Ph.D, they clammed up.
So, yes it does carry a lot of weight here. Just how much I couldn't say. |
