If you're already living in Costa Rica you probably already know this, but if you are not here you should know that it is very difficult to get residency and so most foreigners, including myself, are on tourist visas which last only 90 days. The way we all get around this is to cross the border, by going back to the states or more commonly by going to Panama or Nicaragua, for 72hrs and reenter Costa Rica.
I have just completed my first border-run - my girlfriend and I went to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, which is a beautiful, fun, and relaxed surfer town on the Pacific coast just north of the CR border. We both highly recommend it if you are in need of a border run, but there are some things you're going to want to know about the jouney before you leave.
Anyway, I get a lot of questions about visas and border jumps on my blog, so I've written all about it.
To read all about the border crossing process and what to expect, read my recent post at:

In case anyone is interested, there is now a new post on the blog to compliment the previous one. It talks about what the actual town of San Juan del Sur is like - where to eat, where to stay, where to party, etc etc. I would certainly encourage anyone wanting to travel to Nicaragua to stop by this nice, unique surfer town on the southern pacific coast.
