Have you ever met someone from this or any other discussion forum? I met a Dave's poster this weekend and it was so cool! It's funny how you have an idea in your head about what someone is like based on the way they post, yet when you meet the person face-to-face, they can be very different from how you'd imagined them. |

No but I know a few posters because they are current or former colleagues. It's always nice to hear their point of view |

I haven't met another poster, but I've been identified by a regular lurker. I think it was a bit of a let down for the poor guy. Maybe it's better to preserve the mystery if, like me, your online persona is much more interesing than your "real life" one. |

Actually, yes I have, and both turned out to be great experiences!
The first was a guy who was asking about teaching in Katowice. Now, this was about 4 years ago. So, I talked him into working at the International House in Katowice, and he was very happy I did!! He wound up staying for 3 years...
The other is an even more interesting (at least in my opinion) story. I won't mention her name, but we first "met" here when she asked about working at my current employer (which is also her current employer). We e-mailed each other for the 6 months before she came to Poland 2 years ago, and became quite good friends once she got here.
This past August, she married one of her Polish co-workers at the school we work at. They are extremely happy, and she is very grateful she came to Poland in the first place.
So, those are the 2 people I've met off of here. The first, I'm not in contact with anymore, which is a real shame. The other is still a very close friend of mine!
Oh, and I've talked on the phone to a few others that I met on here, but never met in person. Does that count?? |

Denise, there are lots of Dave's posters in Japan! You should make a date. |

I've never met anyone from Dave's face to face, but I do know one regular poster here through a mutual friend. Very strange coincidence because it had nothing to do with teaching. |

The person Capergirl refers to was me. It was very interesting! We chatted for a few hours straight. It was the first time I had this kind of experience but I'd definitely do it again if I had the chance. |

I haven't met anyone from this forum. I have, however, met some people from another forum I belong to. (not ESL related) It was great. Maybe we can both meet half way. How about Niagara? |

No, it's never happened to me.
Sounds like fun
And, to nomadder.
I really like the "subject:" of your post re: meeting Capergirl.
It's great: "Nomadder Meets Capergirl." Could be a short-story title. A cartoon strip, maybe? |

Hey J-Pop that's exactly what I thought. That was going to be the title of the thread but Capergirl beat me to it. |

One guy used Dave's forum to organise a get-together in a well-known watering-hole. Imagine - nobody turned up there! What does that say about all of us?
(In my case, I overslept on that particular day, then apologised by PM and offering to meet up with him separately - he did not take up that offer!).
On the other hand, I have met a few of those posting here occasionally! And, of course, I know some that use this forum although I may not know their eslcafe persona. |

Never met anyone from here, but I've spoken by phone to one person. Just waiting for the day when someone says..."Oh! You're Glenski!?!?!? I don't run into too many other foreigners, though. |

I met a co-worker of a poster from the Chinese forum. That's as close as I've gotten to a real life meeting . . . well one that I've been aware of, anyway. |
