|
|
I dedicate this thread to B.A Alex, who inspired me with his "end of an era" thread. It seems that most people just want a place for their football related stuff so I thought if you can,t beat em,join em .
I feel that their is not enough in depth and thought provoking analysis on this subject so to get the ball moving I have some questions about football and footballers staying with our homegrown ones for a while although I fully expect the debate to spread to other nationalities ,it is after all a world game .
So to begin ,its 2006 and 40 years ago England were world champions ,what has happened in those four decades? There has been no shortage of home grown talent that were considered world class players ,and the current generation are no exception ,but lets be honest the farce in Germany was something I,m sure we all want to forget.Do you think they give value for money? The amount of money young Rooney is going to make by the time he is 30 is just staggering, with that kind of financial security are people like him hungry enough to win when those from poorer countries have nothing to lose and everything to gain by playing that bit harder ,is that why we lose?
No debate about footballers would be complete with out including the company they keep ,yeah I mean the WAGS, what a bunch of parianas,I fail to see what Wayne sees in that chav ,but he,s not the best looking bloke in the world .
Anyway that will do for starters, just opened the door a bit ,we can talk about the game itself and the fans later ,thats you guys by the way.O.K. Ollie that wasn't too bad was it see you can be nice to people if you try ,ok,ok, stop shaking, you deserve a drink . |

I think we all just concluded that its not just "men" who are interested in football there are kids and their mothers too ,and these kind of issues don't get raised or answered because its just a match fixture bullitin board,so I raised some genuine questions,do you have the intelligence or balls to answer them ? |

Nice try Ollie, but I think the gang of three will not like you interferring on their turf as your not a die in the wool real ale drinking registered footie fanatic. If they were sincere about providing a service for the wider forum football fans than they could at least give this thread a chance ,sadly I think it will be starved of posts and slide off the front page rapidly ,they will do anything to keep that thread going, its got nothing to do with the game itself, just their own self esteem . |

Cornflake box psychology.
I'll answer the original question later on when I'm a bit more awake, but let me ask you this BigBadSuzzie -
I totally agree that the Men's thread is vacuous, banal, pointless, and has nothing to do with teaching. I also agree that football seems like a pointless waste of time, in the same way that The Fall seem like some half-arsed rubbish punk band, Jackson Pollock seems like a child at primary school finger painting, Lars Von Trier seems like some old bloke with a cine-8 camera, and Johanna Newsom seems like she has a voice like a cat being killed. However, these are all people and things that I love. Hate football, hate punk rock, hate dogma cinema, that's no problem. I hate arabesque. I hate most Hollywood cinema. I hate shopping. But you know what? I don't take any opportunity to boast these facts. Sure, I'll take part in a discussion about the artistic merits of such things just like I'm prepared to talk about religion with someone who isn't just going go on some rant about the Bible or Qu'ran.
I don't however make personal attacks on people because of their interests. I don't suggest that people have personal psychological problems because they're having a laugh on an Internet forum. We have a long thread because we have low self esteem? Really? Is that the only reason why people have fun is it? Do people do Domino Rallies because they have self esteem? Do people play monopoly because they have low self esteem? Do people go down the park for a walk and to feed the ducks because they have low self esteem? Come on Bigbadsuzzie - do people constantly bitch and moan about things that no way insult them or intrude into their life and make personal attacks on people they've never met or no nothing about because they have low self esteem?
Can't you guys just give it rest for once so we can return to days when you could chat with some mates on an Internet forum with fear of BBS or OO jumping in with some diatribe and twisted rhetoric?
Please?
Pretty please?
Pretty please with a cherry on top? |

Hey ,Entrailicus,is that really you ?So young and normal looking ,if I showed my students that there would be quite a lot of obsession going on ,wonder what ollie would think ?
B.A, sorry, your right 100% I must get on an anger management course its all this pms we get you see.
I wish I could get the hang of the quote function so I could dissect that last post and throw it back at you piece by piece ,but you know what, I can't be arsed! I'm willing to call a truce if you can reduce your condescending tone. Nuff said . Pax.
And hey ,just for the record I don't like cornflakes . |

Scotland briefly had a good team in the late 70s

Can not disagree with that
Just to add the thing that I can't stand is the fallling and diving. Big girls blouses.
I actually grew up playing rugby at school and uni. If you got a smack across the head or a boot in the guts you just got up and carried on. Its part of the game. I have actually stopped playing football myself(just recently) Mostly the Turks were complaining about my tackles being to hard. Poofs
How do you think someone like Ronaldo would have dealt with chopper Harris.
I'd also love to see Souness in his prime against Rooney. Wayne hard. No chance. |

I think Vinnie Jones made a smart move to get out before he got badly hurt or someone else did because of him ,he really was a hard man ,wonder how Rooney would cope with him? |

Hmmm, so there are rumours about the LA galaxy being interested in Becks. So Becks goes out there, gets all the contacts, invites his mate Wayne out, he makes contacts..... and becomes the next big Hollywood star. frightening innit?
The next big blockbuster out of Hollywood

I don't know if you've seen "Goal" (It's actually a really good film, but I'm biased as it's set in Newcastle).
Anyway, Becks makes a cameo in that and oh God, it's cringe-worthy. |

I was born and grew up in Yorkshire, but lived for the past 6 years (until a few months ago) in Newcastle. It's sort of my second home. Loved it up there. Goal makes Newcastle - from the camera work - look like some sort of wonder city |
