Might be over for the new year, possibly sooner.
Not really fussy where I work.
I have five years EFL experience in Turkey from many moons ago, but don't have a degree, just a TEFL diploma.
I speak Turkish and should have Turkish citizenship soon, failing that a residence visa when I get there should be no problem (I can show I'm married to a Turkish girl - or can put some cash in a Turkish bank account, how much do they need to see?)
Any jobs going in the bottom end dershaneler?
Back in 84 - I spent over a year living in Sultan Ahmet hostels, I can tell a few stories from those days. Reading some of the back posts on this forum I see the EFL trade still attracts a fair amount of nutters! |

Hey, Ollie may not like football but there is no need for language like that.
There are always jobs in Istanbul. But to be legal you do need a degree. When you say you have a diploma, is this a Cambridge/Trinity Diploma or a dodgy internet diploma.. makes a difference. |

Not bothered about working legal as I'm not too fussy where I work.
I've worked at a number of private language schools in Istanbul at the bottom end of the food chain so I know what to expect.
Just need enough hours to survive which I more than did in the past, in fact I burnt out.
My diploma was gained by distance learning around 1986.
I may take an online one before I arrive in Istanbul, I may also take a course at the British Council.
I just need some friendly assurance (or an actual job offer!!) that I can get a full time job and find a flat share (and keep away from the wife's family!!).
I'm also aware that private language schools work late evening and Sat/Sun, but that not really a problem for me - except when Sariyer play. |

with no degree you won't get hired at English Time, Gokdil, or Interlang. You might try the smaller lang schools. |

I think once you get citizenship it won't make any difference wether you have the right papers or not they will just pay cash in hand and if anyone offical calls you just take the day off.
If they don't have to bother with work permits for you then that makes life a lot easier for them ,I would be surprised if getting a job in most lang schools would be difficult for you .Hope you enjoy Istanbul, with your attitude I think you 'll go far on the dershane circuit . |

I actually did a couple of years at Gok Dil in the late eighties at the Taksim and Laleli branches.
Also if i get citizenship, possibly some school may employ me legally as a tea seller or cleaner while i take lessons instead. |
