Has anyone else noticed this rather odd phenomenon in Japan? There are three schools within fairly short walking distance of my house that have an old locomotive sitting behind a railing on the grounds of the school. I'm not much of a train spotter but the one on the grounds of the elementary school next to my house is a big yellow, quite modern looking one, while the other two I've seen are rather older steam locomotives.

Maybe its for the education of the kids, I don't know. I guess they have to put the old ones somewhere.
