If you take it from the kana spelling it is but my Japanese teacher has said it is acceptable to pronounce the (n).

The point I was making before - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanji

I couldn't find the place in the link that you were referring to. I only saw references to romaji.

It's romaji not romanji.

Depends on what perspective you're coming from - Romanisation of Japanese hence the spelling romanji. I know Japanese teachers who use this spelling as a matter of preference. Not important anyway, it gets that point across.

Actually, romanji is a common mistake people make. There is no such thing as romanji. It's romaji. Plain and simple.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/romaji

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/romaji = definition
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/romanji = nothing

If you still can not comprehend, just ask some of your Japanese co-workers. Rolling Eyes Your Japanese teacher is dead wrong. Along with common sense, I decided to survey 20 Japanese people here and asked them if it is romaji, romanji or if both are ok. 20/20...romaji.

I just started trying to learn the Japanese alphabets this weekend. I hate being illiterate. I started with Katakana because I figured 90% of the words in Hirigana I wouldn't recognize even if I was able to understand what they were.

Anybody have any advice on how to learn the alphabets fast? Right now I am just writing them out again and again and trying to memorize them.

Flashcards.

1. Write the character on one side and the corresponding sound in roman characters on the other. Go through the stack, set aside the ones you didn't get right on the first go.... Shuffle that stack and go through them again. The ones you get right on the second go-through, put back into the stack of cards you know. Keep doing it until you know the whole stack. Then do the inverse -- flip the cards over, looking at the romanized sounds, and try writing the character.

2. Wipe hands on pants.

3. Repeat.

The book, "Kana Can Be Easy." It's excellent.

It's cheap too.

Go to a lot of coffee shops and try and read the menus. I learnt all my katakana from there and never used a text.
