Hi,

I've read pretty much everything there is on this site about Westgate but all I've found is info on the University and Academy programs.....has anyone out there done the Young Learners program? I've read that the University and Academy program gigs are essentially the same as teaching at an eikaiwa......just wondering if it's the same for the YLP? If you (or someone you know) has done this program, I hope you wouldn't mind answering a few q's:

How long are the lessons? How many actual lessons/day? How many kids/class? Are lesson plans provided for you or does the teacher have to create original lessons? Are teachers responsible for all teaching or are they more of an ALT? Similar to teaching kids classes at an eikaiwa?

It also says on their website that: "Japanese speaking ability will be helpful for you at elementary/primary schools". Wondering how much Japanese is needed as I rarely used it when I taught kids. I have 3 years experience teaching at an eikaiwa so know what that's all about.

This is pretty much all it says about the program on Westgate's website:

"Westgate Young Learners Program is looking for individuals who are highly motivated to teach in a private elementary/primary school. Those who are interested in a rewarding overseas experience and enhancing their teaching skills can apply for this unique opportunity.

Westgate Young Learners Program was set up to give our instructors and our students a mutually beneficial experience. Our instructors will offer students a unique opportunity to have a native speaker who is trained in the current teaching techniques and teaching trends. Our program will offer our instructors the opportunity to experience Japanese elementary/primary schools, improve and refine their teaching, and have a unique cross-cultural experience. Japanese speaking ability will be helpful for you at elementary/primary schools."

Thanks for your help!

Shak
