no offence intended bindair, my response to your post was purely from a professional linguistic point of view and in no way meant to be taken as a criticism of your literary skills

but once again bindair you have me...........what would you say......bemuddled? befuddled?now this sounds like it came straight from harry potter, which I wouldn't know as I have never even considered reading such nonsense, what do they have on the shelves of your compound library?

But getting back to the point bindair, even the difference between British and American English doesn't explain your fascinating use of the queen's tongue.

have you been overseas for a long time?

I look forward to your next missive.

Yours curiously,

S

Without making character attacks, I'm going to have to side with Sven. Throwing out your Ivy League status won't do you many favours here, Bindair, because the majority of us have similar or arguably superior qualifications in the linguistic field. I could try and talk to you in Old English if you like, and claim superiority because, you know, it's the original form and all that, but the point is that there's a level of English that makes communication easiest and you're veering farther and farther from it with each post.

Just because we don't want to type like Umberto Eco doesn't put as all in the JK ROwling category.

Teaching in Qatar is a whole different ball game and would unhinge most of you. I have considered you all summarily smart because you are all teachers in the best country to teach ESL. I take it I've stopped being succinct and my apology goes totally without saying.
Of all places, in the region where I am, I can not take my students farther than the province of their mind. Teaching in Poland was undeniably more rewarding than it would be teaching in the Far or Middle East. Svenhassel, I have been overseas long enough to say that if you live in America all your life, overseas will come to you one way or another. But it's been 2 years for me.
You know often when people read your post they take measure of your credibility so my intention is never to trumpet superiority, let alone arrogance. So Grrrmachine's post rang the bell of wisdom and deserves the last word.

Somewhat similar to teaching in China, but far less exciting. Read this

These two teachers wrote the book.

Thanks the Middle East sounds like a good place to save up some money to buy a place.

Yet it's not without its price.

You can earn 70,000 USD in six months? Because that's about what you're looking at for a decent place relatively close to the center in Poznan.

I don't mean to hijack my own thread, but advice on how to buy a place in Poland definately deserves a place on here.

Afterall an ESL salary isn't going to be enough for most of us.

I know of a guy who taught in Qatar and with that money and his savings he bought a place in London.

He was making about $10,000 a month.

Although the Middle East wouldn't be my first choice, if I can do a 6 month contract and then have some money to help pay for an apartment in Poland, then why not?

It is worth noting that ESL teachers in the rich Gulf Coast Countries can earn over 20,000 zlotys per month, especially in Qatar where the economy is booming. That was a powerful reason to leave Poland 6 months ago. I know my decision was purely lucrative, plus I developed some curb appeal after I left Poland, noticing that the real estate market was still affordable. Of course, becoming a homeowner in the center of Poznan might be a tad ambitious. But I've been ogling Wroclaw and small college towns where prices aren't ripping quite yet.
redsoxfan, gregoryfromcali,

Youre hilarious BDG - do you blog?

by the way - $7OK will probably get you more in Poznan than Wroclaw - try Bydgoszcz if you have limited finances

Some advice from Redsoxfan.

Quote:
OK, go to ang.pl and click on szkoly at the top, then you'll see a list of all the areas of Poland. Click on each one and you'll have a list of schools with email addresses. There's a good 1500 schools on there. Happy emailing.

PS. Poles are very formal in their business emails, annoyingly so. Don't say "Hi, this is John..." Lay the formality on thick: "Dear Sir or Madam." It's tempting to ignore this advice because it's so stupid, but a lot of people will think you're uneducated, unprofessional, etc if you talk like a human being.
