Sounds interesting, MELEE. Have you ever been to one of these conferences before? I hadn't heard of it.

Any tidbit of information would be helpful.

Yes Polly
The British Council holds it every other year, I went in 1999, 2001, and 2003. I missed 2005 due to motherhood! and I can't wait to get back. It is more expensive than MEXTESOL, but includes two posh lunches and you can pretty much make a breakfast out of the morning coffee break. Plus, at MEXTESOL, I've been in sessions where I was wishing I'd chosen to go to a different talk, but never at BBELT, the sessions are all really top notch. I've seen several of my TEFL idols at past BBELTs, Micheal Lewis, Paul Seligson, and Scott Thornbury among them. Plus I always come away with a bag full of free books!

I went in 2001 and have to agree it was a great experience. Every seminar I attended was at the least interesting, lots of free goodies and we all came back refreshed and eager to implement new ideas. The big talk was the lexical approach if I recall.
And best of all our whole English department stayed at the Oxford, just a couple of blocks from the convention center. There were a few newbies so it was fun to expose them to that neighborhood.

Ah The Oxford...

Say, this sounds like a good time for a get together here in DF, if there is time. Any takers?

I'm game.
It is a pretty full on day Friday and Saturday, something like 8 to 8. I'm not sure if I will be leaving Saturday night or Sunday morning. So either Friday night or Saturday night... someplace not to far from the Melia

Im game as well. I have now signed up for the conference so you can count me in. I would really love to meet all of you. Guy should probably make a suggestion since most of us live in the "provincia". No strip clubs please, Guy. Sorry, I don't think that the right scene for MELEE and I, nor would our husbands approve. Smile

Don't worry...no strip clubs as long as we keep thelmadatter sedated. Wink

Where is Melia? Isn't that like a 6 star hotel? Not sure any of us could afford the offerings in the immediate surroundings. I'm sure we can come up with something though...

I believe the address is 1 Reforma, yes, its really posh, but like delacosta mentioned, just a couple of blocks from the Oxford. It's like in front of the Caballito or what ever that yellow thing near the National Lottery is called. I usually stay at the Friedmont, which is just 1/2 a block and 5 stars away from the Melia. Laughing

(after reading the Spanish Fluency thread)

Oh I know where it is *ubicated*. Right in the middle of all the action...I know of several fairly cheap cantinas in the area if that *animates* people. Or something less *naco*, like the Spanish Cultural Center rooftop lounge in the Zocalo, not far away.
