My my biatchy aren't we today? Wink I have experience working with kids and a friend of mine in Taipei works at a neighbourhood school for $600NT on no experience.

I do agree with everyone that it's better to go with a good school more than salary, and start off that way..

I've heard alot of good things about Taiwan. Is the salary in Taiching similar as Taipei & Kaohsiung?

Anyone ever heard of anything on this recruitment agency 'English Universal Growth Education Cente' at website http://www.eugrowth.com/ ?

Are they decent?

It's another agency that was passed on to me by a fellow grad.

Seriously, you would not be selling yourself short at 500/hr. That is a more than fair price for your skills.

It's hard to tell what their emotion is over the computer. He picked on me twice so I had to back myself up. I'm a laid back person, but I'm no body's doormat either Wink

I hate negative gossip, and want a supportive community of people that can share their experiences in a non-judgemental way Smile

Thanks Wally. Was I over the top again? I can never tell. Twisted Evil

Aqua....you are seeking advice for working as an English professional. Yet you seem to be a non-native speaker. By my chastising you in public, one would hope you would learn to proof read your work. If you sent off a cover letter seeking employment in our field that was filled with the errors you are wont to make, my guess would be that your resume would be dumped without a second thought.

Secondly, I am giving you a lesson in Confucian learning techniques.....something you had better learn about if you want to work here.

As for your PM to me asking me to quit being so nagative (sic)..... please. You can't even spell negative. And your claims to laidbackedness seem contradictory with your inability to laugh at yourself.

Chill out my dude from another brood.

If you can't take some good-natured ribbing, maybe you aren't ready to leave momma's apron strings and travel all the way to the other side of the world.

Oh...And Wally...Aristotle will be back....count on it.

blah blah blah,

BTW I'm NoT a dude Mr. Anal Retentive!

Obviously you seem to be MR. Know it all. I can't imagine someone like
you teaching as it take certain qualities like being non-judgemental and
compassionate with patience and not only grammer correction to be an amazing teacher. I would hate for kids to be picked apart by you, vulture.

A thing or two you could learn! Wink

You gotta have the last word huh? Just swallow your pride and stop thinking you the king of shi#!

But now that I've had time to think about it, I retract the above comment. It won't be as you wish. I will respond. Just not now. Too busy living my life.

I'll be back.

I dont know if I'd say over the top, I can understand the argument you're making due to the errors in the OPs postings. At the same time, the OP may just be a lousy typist, and fully fluent in English. At this point why keep flaming when you've already burnt someone?

I do agree with your post about the OP toughening up, as what you're writing is not even 1/10th as harsh as some of the realities/difficulties you have moving to a new country where barely no one speaks your language. I think this is actually very important, becuase without my good friends who were already in country the first few weeks here would have been HARD.

Rolling Eyes Oh...joy...I cant wait Rolling Eyes Although it is always fun to watch the *hitstorm develop whenever he comes out with one of his "Rights in Taiwan" posts or something of similar nature.

Anyways, I've got some shopping to do...off to 3C.

Hmmmm? Chill out or toughen up? Which is it that you want the OP to do?

I'm of the opinion that being able to stand up for oneself is a good trait to have in Taiwan (or perhaps in the ESL biz anywhere).

I'm also of the opinion that when a newbie asks for advice it's in bad form to use their post to flame them on some issue unrelated to their question.

It would be nice to create more friendships and less animosity.

AQUA MARINA, if Taiwan is where you end up I hope you find it to your liking.

First of all, she came here asking what kind of salary she could expect. She is asking for advice from us veterans and all we have to base our advice on is her posts. What can we glean from her posts? She is a) prolly not a native speaker and b) most likely very young and inexperienced.

Based on these assumptions, I suggested that she proof read her work in order to raise her value (albeit in not so many words). Granted, I was being flip. I'll give you that. But "flaming"? I don't think so. I know how to flame. That wasn't it.

She then tells me I am being "biatchy". She put a smiley after her "insult" so I took it a) with a grain of salt and b) as license to play. I pointed out (again, with humour) that, based on her posts, she should prolly expect to earn in the lower end of the spectrum.

She then goes off on a tirade of immature conjectures telling me I am a loser with no life and worse, blah blah blahing me. I hate being blah blah blahd.

She even has the audacity to suggest that the mods turf me. I have been on this board for almost 5 years, helping out countless n00bs. I have also always called a weiner a weiner. I do not suffer fools gladly. I am not saying this young girl is a fool. She may well be a math genius for all we know. I can tell you for sure, that she lacks some basic English skills that would negate her from being offered employment from most upstanding English businesses in Taiwan or Japan. She's prolly just right for Korea however. Twisted Evil

And to AM personally,

In my vernacular, I do not distinguish between male and female. Every one is a "dude". But as it so offended you, I will now refer to you as "my sister from another mister".

I want you to chill. Wally wants you to toughen up.

You should prolly find a way to do both. Or stay home until you are more able to handle travel inthe big bad world.
