Prufrock has posted this question because he wants to see how competitive the salary package offered by JIC is relative to what else is out there in KSA. He usually sees ads by KFUPM or language centres, but they do not offer what JIC offers. What do your instituions offer? |

BAE Systems.............nice if you can get it.
I think they've dropped their standards a little i.e. they now accept a BA.
Overall package comes to about 30,000 sterling (I think).........plus free accommo, food etc. |

007:
The advertised salary ranges between $25 000 and $40 000 a year. Teachers, at the moment, have the option of a housing allowance, and that ranges between $6500 and about $9000 a year, comprehensive medical, air tickets, etc. |

It will depends on your qualifications, years of experience, plus the origin counrty where you will sign your contract.
Definitely, BAE will offer better contract!
As a reference , you could take the following offer as a an average offer from most of SA universities (regulated by Ministry of Higher Education), for someone who has an BA qualification:
BA (English or related field)
Housing allowance of SR. 17,000
Step Monthly Salary Experience, Transportation Allowance, Total Monthly Salary, Annual Housing Furniture Allowance paid once for all :
2 yrs experience ---> 7,170, 500 7,670 17,000 8,500
3 yrs 7,695 Three years 500 8,195 17,000 8,500
4 yrs 8,220 Four years 500 8,720 17,000 8,500
5 yrs 8,750 Five years 500 9,245 17,000 8,500
Some universities offer an annual increment of 1% to 5% for each full contractual year of service. The highest Salary for an BA holder is around SR. 10,500 |

I agree with the "deranged" 007.
Try BAE or another one of the top paying jobs. Or go elsewhere. The US$ has depreciated a lot in the last few years. If this continues jobs like JIC - even at the upper end of the pay scale - will become untenable IMO.
Have you considered Korea? The Won has been appreciating against the dollar and will likely continue to do so. You might be able to do better financially and you will definitely have a better life there.
These days it seems that currency appreciation is about the only way to get a pay raise in the tefl world. In Saudi you're looking at stagnant or declining pay rates + a disadvantagous currency outlook. The classic double whammy! |
