Does anyone know which school is better to work for and career advancement?
I know Shane pay NT$45,600 per month for 80 hours while HEss pays NT$48,160 over 6 days a week for 80 hours a week, I was contemplating taking Shane and then work 1 day a week b ut then I discoverd that with Shane you will be working 6 days a week sometime!
Anyone offer advice? |

Have you settled on Taiwan, or are you still considering Japan, Korea, Thailand, Canada, Spain ...? |

People will be more likely to help you once they know you're no longer bouncing all over the map. |

Really?
Just yesterday (November 21, 2006) you were looking for work in Italy and said that you are planning on "settling" in Italy.

Thanks Jetgirl, but I am hoping to settle in Bari...... |
Then, last week (November 13, 2006), you were asking about applying for PNET or NET in Hong Kong over at the

sorry again guys! I am due to graduate in June 2007, does that mean I will have to apply for pnet/net upon graduation or can I apply now without having my degree? I know that on the form it asks me to attach a copy of my degree but as I don't get this untill June its kinda hard to do that! Thanks |
Then, on August 20, you talked about having an "employer" in Japan

Hey, my employer is stating that I'll work only 26 hours, So I'll have to make NHI payments alone which I am told could cost 30,000 a month! So, apart from this I'll also have to pay into a private pension for when I am older (need to think about this sort of stuff now I think) so that'll be another 20k (as my employer will be matching payments by 40%, so in total I'll be putting 28k a month yen) a month so in total I'll be paying 50k yena month for NHI and private pension from a salary of 300k - 320k. Does anyone else do this? shall I just not bother with private pension? |
Where are you? It sounds like you're teaching in Japan but your other posts read like you're still in university and haven't graduated yet but have decided to live in several countries: Italy, U.K., Canada, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. |

You're working at a school with two other teachers. Suddenly the teacher who has been there longest leaves and now you've been there the longest. You are now the head foreign teacher. This is TEFL career advancement in Taiwan.
The school you work for won't make a difference. The contacts and money you make may make a difference.
Career advancement in English teaching in Taiwan means either owning your own school or maybe taking a paycut and getting out of English teaching all together.
Shane prefers British pronunciation. Hess use 'North American' KK phonetics.
They're both chain schools. Many people do one year with a chain school and then move on. Chain schools give you good grounding in Taiwan's TEFL scene.
Working 6 days a week is the norm. (I'm told it is different in Taipei and Kaosiung) |

Neither. I know it seems easier to start
out at a major chain, but I still say..... |
