My friends told me Rockall is the place to be for EFL teachers.
They said the salary is fantastic, the nightlife is great and the people there are really friendly.
Is this true? |

Near Iceland apparently. About 250 miles across the sea from both Scotland and the north-west coast of Ireland.
Apparently it's very peaceful. |

I heard that despite the high demand there for EFL, because of the high salaries (allegedly among the best TEFL salaries relative to wages due to the oil industry) turning up there without at least an M.A. and 5 years experience is a waste of time. Is this what you heard too JR? |

Heard that unless you're well-qualified your chances of finding work can founder on the rock(s). |

"Rockall, a small, isolated rocky islet in the North Atlantic Ocean"
I googled it. It appears to be a rock. Period.
Are there some potential TEFL students hanging on oil rigs somewhere in the neighborhood? Can I take my MA and eight years of experience and make my fortune? I like cold weather and have fairly extensive experience teaching in the oil and gas industry..... |

Some interesting facts about Rockall:
The name Rocabarraigh is also used in Gaelic folklore for a mythical rock which is supposed to appear three times, the last being at the end of the world.
Nuair a thig Rocabarra ris, is dual gun tid an Saoghal a sgrios.
(When Rocabarra returns, the world will likely come to be destroyed/ruined)
Other mythological stories surrounding Rockall:
"Fionn MacCumhaill took a sod of grass and he threw it to the fore, Then he tossed a pebble across the sea, where ever it did fall, For the sod became the Isle of Man and the pebble's called Rockall."
So there we are. A barren rock in the middle of the North Sea. Current enrolment: 16 Puffins, 3 seals and a flock of cormorants.

To bring this post to a full circle, I have to ask JRCash - what kind of friends have you got who want to send to to Rockall? |
