Hello people:
I'm planning my trip to Bangkok and I trying to determine if those package deals that the travel agencies are always hocking are competitively priced compared to going over to Thailand and finding my own accommodations. I just fear that I won't find anything decent in and around Bangkok - a pipe dream?
I'm only going down there for a few days but I want to be in the heart of the city nightlife. On that note, is Bangkok the most happening place to be? Also, does anyone know what's the temp down there in December and January? Thanks to those in advance. |

Package deals are a rip off. Find your own accommodations. You'll find plenty of "decent" places to stay. That's not even the right word here. You'll find some of the best hotels in the whole world right in Bangkok. So you want to be in the heart of BKK nightlife huh? Either go to the big backpacker's district Kho San Road (loads of hotels to pick from) or if you are really adventurous go over to Silom Road area in the middle of the night. I'm sure you'll find plenty of "nightlife" over there. YEAH, BKK is the MOST happening place to be! Temp. in Dec. and Jan.? It's HOT!!! Sounds like you need to buy the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide to Thailand. |

Thanks for the response white elephant. I agree that a travel guidebook is an invaluable thing to have; I suppose I can pick one up in Seoul. Are the Dorling Kindersley travel guides better than the Lonely Planet guides? I read the LP guide for Korea; it was kind of dry - just like Korea! |

Yes, Kyobo Book Center, 39,910 won. DK is much better than Lonely Planet. I'd also like to say that Kent's master list on here is a good place to start looking if you are going to Thailand for a visit or to live. It's probably even better and more up-to-date than Lonely Planet
Oh, best remedy for dryness in Korea: Buy Thailand Tiger Balm and boil it in a pan of water. It's saving my life right now! |
