Has anyone had any contact with them? What are they like to work for? I'm possibly going to accept a contract with them. How is life in Salalah? I'd presume Muscat to be better, but is there a lot of difference?
Thanks so much. |

Salalah is quite a lot more low key than Muscat but it has its own charms - the beaches and mountains are beautiful and the 'Khareef' season in the late summer and early fall is fantastic as the whole area turns green and lush with misty and rainy days and cool temperatures - it is the middle eastern vacation spot for the late summer to beat the heat and soak in some freshness.
ELS Salalah is small but I understand it to be a pleasant place to work - being a language school it won't pay top dollar and the hours will likely be in the afternoons and evenings . Salalah is growing as is everything else in Oman so I would assume that the language school business will grow as well. I know there is a fairly large university down there called Dhofar uni and I think some colleges as well.
All in all, if you are looking for a calm and relaxing place to live with a regular paycheck, its probably good. For me, I still need the bright lights of Muscat ( ha!) and a little more variety in my social and activities diet.

Hi,
I worked for ELS Salalah and would recommend it more than 100%.
The classes are usually in the afternoon / evening, except for summer school which is split shifts. Ramadhan is also split shift with a fairly late evening finish - but the atmosphere is different and it is great fun. The regular classes are 4.30 - 7.00 and 7.00 - 9.30pm, most of the students are sponsored by their companies and are definately serious about studying. Mixed classes are the norm and completely interactive. The syllabus is New Interchange, Keep Writing and Weaving it Together.
The staff - absolutely fabulous. 2 really efficient administrators (Omani) and 1 fairly new receptionist (also Omani) who is learning English and doing pretty well. Very helpful, knowledgeable and always cheerful. The teaching staff is a mix of full timers (all native speakers) and part timers (mixed native speakers and non native speakers who work full time for the Ministry of Education as English language teachers) and they are all super and an amazing team. Friendly, helpful and and always cooperative and helping each other out.
The director is a man whom i could not speak highly enough of, same goes for the board of directors and the finance manager. I genuinely had no problems or complaints during my 2 years working there.
The only reason i left was to pursue further study. However i am going to be returning part time. Anyone who knows me knows that i had huge questions and doubts about leaving, but felt i had to in order to pursue my studies. I miss it a lot, especially the people.
If you have any questions at all, let me know. I really cannot speak highly enough of this company. |
