of an ESL teacher in Costa Rica...
Recently a contributor to my blog, Costa Rica Classroom, posted an entry on a typical day in his life as an ESL teacher here in CR. His post, as well as many others on the blog, could be helpful info for anyone thinking of moving to Costa Rica, Latin America, or anywhere else to teach ESL. Below is an intro to the post:
"So heres my situation. I live in Heredia at my friends grandfathers house and I teach at a University across town. I have 4 classes spread throughout the week. Right now, I teach night classes Monday Thursday and a Saturday class as well. My school is on bimesters so every 7 weeks the schedules and classes change. Classes meet for 3 hours, twice a week or a nice 6 hour hunk on Saturdays. We basically have to cover an 8-page unit every week. My students range from your classic university students to middle-aged people with fulltime jobs and families to the thirteen-year-old prodigys who are already at the highest level of university English. This is what I did last Thursday."

I think blogs are a great way for someone to find out what a country is like, whether they want to go there for work or to travel or to just be an armchair traveller. |

I agree, It's amazing how many people email with questions and comments about how thankful they are to have a blog as a resource to refer to before deciding to move. I've even had people tell me that they were generally unsure about moving abroad to teach, but having read the blog they are convinced it's something they can and would like to do.
