My condolences to all Chicago Cubs fans out there. I really could not give two twits about baseball, but I am sad that the Cubs did not make the World Series. I tried to listen to a radio cast of the game on my computer, but they were all pay sites.

There is something wrong when a team called the MARLINS get the right to play in the World Series twice in their 11 years of existance when the Cubs have not been there since 1945 and have not won the thing since 1908.

Maybe we will see that twit BARTMAN (the guy who caught the foul ball in Game 6) posting on the board about his wonderful 3000 RMB a month job at the Qinghai Institute of Plumbing and Dust.

My condolences as well. The only part of Chicago I've ever seen is O'Hare, but still, I was hoping to see the Cubs make it to the Series.

Why is it that this poor fan who caught the ball in FOUL territory is getting death threats, when just a few years ago some 12-year-old kid reached out and caught a home-run ball in FAIR territory and became a celebrity?!?!? Maybe they cut him some slack because he was just a kid.

The Cubs just need someone to point the finger at.

Some actually make it sound like it was this fan who allowed 5 runs in an inning Rolling Eyes

And now that other perennial bridesmaid, the hapless Red Sox, are out of the running, too - ending what could have been such a perfect match-up: The Losers World Series. The Cubbies were last World Champs in 1908, the Red Sox in 1918. And both managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory yet once again. Maybe there really IS something to those " curses ". Oh well - as we've been saying in Boston since 1919, " Wait until next year. " And thank God for football - how about them Patriots?

OH God Johnslat did you have to mention the Bosox. I logged on this morning and they were up 4-0 and ...well...this is the year... They seemed doomed all along though. I am not from Boston but I have been there and love the team although baseball sucks these days since the strike in 94. It's all about buying the best team. I like Pedro i saw him pitch live before---amazing. So I thought maybe they had a chance. It's 86 and 78 and ......weelll all that all over again. Was only their 4th postseason advance in history and it all went for naught. A sad day---good thing God invented beer... Crying or Very sad

Sure I knew what you meant. No argument that it's rather ridiculous to call it the " World Series " when cities from only two countries have teams
that are eligible for the contest. Just another example of USA chauvinism or thoughtlessness, I suppose. But I'm worried about you, dmb. You're beginning to sound just a little like ( gasp ) scot47.

I feel sorry for the Cubs fan that some nuts in Chicago want to kill. Talk about taking the game a little too seriously. It wasn't even that critical a play, but they love to point fingers. How about letting a 3 game led slip away, that's the problem. Maybe Chicago needs to wait for the next Haley's Comet to come back. Maybe the World series comes every 2 comets to Chicago.

Sweet sufferin' succotash - what a week you must have been enduring!! Well, actually I'd say that you could do a lot worse than to sound like our resident curmudgeon. I think it's good that we have him around to give us a " reality check " every so often. But I do have wonder - would two of him be too much of a good thing?

Having grown up in Boston at a time when there were 2 major league teams there ( the Red Sox and the then Boston Braves ), I think that ( many/most of ) the Chicago White Sox fans would have put their " intra-city rivalry " on hold and been proud to have had even the local opposition in the Series.
