The key issue is what you want to do in your spare time. Living in Central, North Point, TST etc is good for going out but you'll get loads of pollution related sickness. Living in a village is great for a more healthy and quiet existence. Personally I would never live in an ex-pat setup as I think you would miss out on too much local culture and you get tired of the same old issues / nonsense being hashed up. It's nice to have a few expats to talk to from time to time.

Most smart people rent a room or a serviced apartment for a while until they really know what they want from HK. Setting up house is expensive, given that you need at least 3 months rent in advance (2 months deposit) and set up expenses. Do you want furnished or empty? It's expensive to take stuff with you so it tends to go to the dump or friends when you leave.

Domestics working p/t would probably be illegal as they are generally hired full-time by employers. Some do moonlight on their day off and there are some who have permanent ID status and do p/t work.

The marbles might be furniture being moved around to fool ghosts. I have one of these critters in my house! Razz

When I first moved in, it wasn't this bad. It seems to have degraded to a point of no-return now and Im off soon..

There are some decent places in Mongkok to live, as I have seen them.

I chose this place as it was large, convenient (literally on top of the MTR subway) and inexpensive rent. I am here for one more month before moving out.

Having lived in about 3 other places, mostly with locals, I have to say locals are not as considerate of others or as friendly as expats tend to be.

Is WNF displaying his culturally informed insight again? Previously, it was about how racist HK locals were, but now it's how dirty / noisy / inconsiderate etc. they are. Switching roles are we?

You had to resurrect a conflict in a thread you got locked by attacking someone personally for their experiences. How you do revel in patronising tone and language...much like a pig revels in sloth.

I am suprised that someone of your vast, extended years exercises such little self-control on those naughty impulses. You've been a bad hag, haven't you?

Actually, I believe you were the one that got that particular thread locked. But no reason to let facts get in the way of your happily peculiar arguments! You never have before!

I just found it rather amusing that after going on and on about racist Hongkongers - while childishly insulting those who didn't agree as "self-haters" or delusional or whatever - you then turn around and excrete extreme bigotry, apparently unable to see the contradiction.

No, my little friend, when your responses are peppered with silly clip-art featuring enlightened phrases as "I'm sorry, you're an idiot", "are you on crack?", and "looser", it is hard to take you and your personal experiences too seriously.

Some, however, may actually be predisposed to believing small portions of your rants, though they should be limited mainly to those who see only an isolated comment and thus not be aware of your previous posts and the extent of your paranoia. We certainly wouldn't want the OP and others to have a skewed view of the local population strengthened by the callous misconceptions of a crank.

And thus the reason for the response.
