Are you going to visit your country of origin for Christmas/New Years?
Another country?
Are you sending Christmas presents home?
If so, what kind of presents are you getting for your family & friends?
(I'm hoping for some good suggestions here as we are going to spend the holidays with the in-laws in Canada)... (UGH!) (I'd rather be surfing somewhere warm). |

No, no, no and don't know yet. We will get a package together to send to my family in France, who knows what. |

I just booked my ticket back home to southern California a couple weeks ago. I've been here since March, and I can't wait to go home. I'm going to do it all in the limited 2 weeks that I can. I can't wait. |

This will be the first Christmas I will be spending in Japan since I first arrived in 2004. I was able to convince my parents to come here to visit me for the holidays! The will arrive on December 22 and leave on December 31. I am really looking forward to showing them around and having a unique Christmas experience here with them. I wont be sending home any presents for the rest of my family, but will instead send my parents back with presents..because really, isnt it great to get some gifts after Christmas has passed?! |

This is my 5th Christmas in Japan. This will be the first year "family" is coming over. My mother-in-law will come on the 23rd since my wife is due around that time. Should be a very interesting Christmas. |

This will be the first Christmas in my 21 years of life I haven't celebrated in the same house with my family.
In a way, I am excited to be doing something different. In another way, it just won't feel the same. |

We're compromising this year. I'm meeting my mom and sister in China. From what I understand Xmas has increased in popularity there as the middle class has expanded, but much like Japan (and the West, it could be argued) its mainly a commercial holiday. Not that I have any interest in it, religious or secular.
Good question about the gifts. The girlfriend and I are framing some of our favorite artsy photos we've taken over the last year and a half and sending them home. |

Is your wife away? Shouldn't she or you show up after our mother-in-law goes home ?

Do you still have a passport? I know one teacher who doesn't have one, but he hasn't left Japan in 8 years !
If you book early enough, it's sometimes not that expensive. Also depends on when you leave for the holidays and when you wish to return. |

Going back home? No way. I only left 9 months ago.
I'm staying in Osaka for Christmas but on the 27th I'm meeting some Australian friends in Beijing and we're travelling around China for 2 weeks. It was cheap but 70000 was easier to swallow than over twice that nearly everywhere else. |
