One needs to broaden one's polling sample to a population more than one. |

The comment about "bules" becoming unpopular in Indonesia also rings familiar, and sounds a bit like the situation in Thailand now (which ghost has visited).....in the past the "farangs" (foreigners) in Thailand were welcomed with open arms and given the red carpet treatment....but with the advent of mass tourism there, the Thais have become jaded....and ghost remembers the surly behaviour of the Thai reception clerks on the last visit to Bangkok and Pattaya.....
The interesting thing about Indonesia (ghost believes) is the much larger variety of cultures and lifestyles in the different parts of the Island, and hopefully there are still a few "hidden jewels" in Indonesia which one might discover, where few tourists have gone, and where the natives are not blase and tired at the sight of another pasty faced foreigner.

xsbir believes that ghost will get tired of "hello mister" (regardless of ghost's gender) long before Indonesians will tire of ghost's phantom face. The only place in Indonesia where bules are not a novelty is Bali. |

Gugelhupf wonders which Island Si Hantu has in mind out of the 2 000 or so that are regularly inhabited.
Actually, one of the plus points about Jakarta is that the 'Hello Mister' brigade are few and far between. Gugelhupf notices this when Gugelhupf travels elsewhere in the archipelago. |

Well I was going to say Papua, but with BP building the biggest LNG site in Asia and Freeport expanding, maybe not there either. Now if you were to come here.as soon as they figured you were not rich you would have all the peace you wanted and more. |

Indonesia, Thailand?
Hmm..both sound good but which one is above sea level and how much above it, I want to know if at all?
Just saw "Inconventient Truth" w/Al Gore. Jeeze, don't want to be in the low lands when the ice melts! |

Rising sea levels... yet another thing for Americans to get paranoid about in Indonesia, eh.
Try Bandung - should be safe enough up there. |

Well, my guess is that if you can see them from the sky, and the water surrounding them, then they are both above sea level, unless Moses has visited and lent a helping hand to keep the waters back. |
