My wife and I are currently teaching privately to groups in various age groups and levels, from young children to adults. We are currently teaching in a village in the western region of Moscow. We have become very successful and earn more than a salaried teacher from the centre of Moscow. We are interested in moving to Prague as a family of four. and setting up something simular. At the moment we are renting a classroom within a state school. can we do the same in Prague?

We have two sons, ages 6 months and 9 years. My wife is Russian and I am British. We are both

qualified and experienced. Additionaly my wife has a linguistic degree in English so you could say my wife is higher qualified than I am.

Has anybody on this site got any experience of privately teaching groups?

I'm sure you could pretty much rent anything you want in Prague. Getting privates as you are aware of deals with having good networking skills and having the skills to impress your clients. However, one thing to take note of is that all of this money is illegal. If you want to make yourself a legitimate business, you will need what is called a Zivnostensky List. Its pretty hard to get and deals with a lot of red tape, but then you can offer yourself to businesses since you would be providing an actual invoice.

Cheers and good luck

Thankyou Chris, your advice is much appreciated. Yes, my wife and I would want to be legit. Any more information about this Zivnostensky list? Are there any useful websites on the subject? hopefully in English?

I've just been discussing the matter with my wife. The red tape is simular to Moscow, and we dealt with it. But hey! my wife is Russian.

What about the Czech Republic, surely the red tape can't be so bad as Russia if the country is in the EU and me being an EU member?.

I was in business in the UK, invoicing was simply a matter of a business account, a registered address, informing the tax authorities and printing out invoices. Yes dealing with companies, they do prefer you to be vat registered but it wasn't obligatary unless you had a very high turnover.

Well, I think that's the kicker. Your wife is Russian, so everyone would be easier in Russia because she can get through the system. Getting a Zivno is quite tasking and there's about 300 Pounds worth of fees needed to complete it. If you were organized, you could probably have it done in about 4-6 months. During that time, the best thing to do is work for a school, see privates on the side and build contacts. My girlfriend is Czech and she helped me get mine. She now helps students with Visas and Zivnos on the TEFL course. If want her contact details, i can provide them.

Looks like you were in a simular situation to me in a different country. My wife is constantly contacted for simular advice. She is contacted for advice on the best universities to study in the UKand how to get in. How to to get CELTA if you are a Russian native, and of course how to get visas in the UK. That was her job because you need good negotiating skills with Brits to get such information.

Back to the subject about Prague. My wife suggested this as she thinks it's such a beautiful city, she has visited many times and she thought that with my EU rights with this country it could be interesting.

However we have now a lot to think about, we didn't think that there was such a lot of lot of red tape as it was now an EU member. Perhaps Prague needs some more time to develop.

Thanks for your assistance about your wife, I am sure she will be a good contact when we are ready. This has given us another problem of thought, my wife is currently a good administrater speaking to Russian parents and beginnera of English for example, who do not speak English. We have suddenly realised we would need a Czeck administrater to provide advise for our prospective students. More costs!

Therefore a lot of consideration has to be made before we make our decision to move to Prague
