Hello,
I have a few questions you may be able to help with. How is English First in Indonesia? I believe in Thailand they are o.k. I teach in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and am thinking of heading to Indonesia to teach. Also, does the Australia Center in Medan hire often and what can I expect for pay at either of those places. I have a CELTA, a BA, and some experience here in HCMC. Thanks. |

The answer is: very variable. There are lots of different franchises ranging from well-organised to diabolical. In recent years there seems to have been a growth in franchisee groups that run multiple locations - and even within these groups the schools can be very variable in quality. The best EF's at least offer an opportunity for inexperienced teachers to get a year of CV filler, which can then be used to obtain a better job the following year.
Best advice is to ask for contact details of existing teachers and check things out with them.
The only thing I can say with confidence about all EF franchises is that they pay the minimum they can get away with. Having said that, you should also think about the location because it might be more fun to be poor in paradise than to be destitute in a filthy city. If you have a bona fide BA and CELTA with some (?) experience I suggest you set your sights a little higher. |
