Jalisco state is often thought of as the most Mexican of Mexico. General state info right here
Guadalajara is the capital and largest city, as well as being the 2nd largest city in the county. By that, most teaching job opportunities in the state are to be found here. Other cities that may offer teaching job opportunities are Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific coast, Tlalquepaque (a small town attached to Guadalajara), Zapopan (also attached to Guadalajara), among others.
Jalisco also offers three TEFL course providers including ITTO in Guadalajara, Vancouver Language Center in Guadalajara, and University English Teachers in Puerto Vallarta.
Teacher pay varies greatly in the state and within Guadalajara itself, though many different opportunities can be found, including a large number of language schools, private colegios, and university teaching positions. It is reasonable to expect a language school job to pay between 40 and 80 pesos per hour and salaried jobs to pay anywhere from 4000 to 20,000 pesos per month (the upper end being the top university positions available)
Cost of living in Guadalajara is reasonable. Making 6000 pesos per month will cover your basic needs as a single person. Beach areas of Jalisco have a higher cost of living and generally lower pay meaning you'd likely only just eke out a living there, though better opportunities do exist if you are highly qualified.
Guadalajara is often abbreviated to Gdl or GDL
A search of Jalisco topics on this forum yields many references as does a search on Guadalajara.

Jalisco! Birthplace of tequila and mariachi, and home to the
Chivas
With 31 states and one Federal District, there are many more to choose from. I think Vera Cruz is next. |

A little about Guadalajara, from the ground.
This seems to be a love it or hate it city.
For a lot of people, Guadalajara is heaven on earth. There are a ton of nightclubs here, a lot of cultural events, and as someone mentioned, a world-class bookfair.
For others, uncontrolled, unplanned growth has made Guadalajara an unpleasant place to live. The public transportation system is functional but in no way pleasant. Traffic is simply horrible. Air pollution is becoming a real issue. People here seem to be even more conservative than in other parts of Mexico, barring perhaps Puebla.
Regarding education, there are quite a few private unis here. There's Tech de Monterrey, ITESO, UVM, UP and many more. There's also UDG, which is public.
There is a lot of work for teachers here. Schools such as ICI specialize in business classes and pay well. Proulex is more of a school-school, doesn't pay as well but offers a good option for teachers who don't want to run around town giving business classes. Many teachers are able to support themselves just with private classes.
I'm attaching some links for those who want to know more.
