That's right, how much of an issue is Internet censorship in China, and
how has it affected teachers (foreign teachers) in China? For example, one assumes that you can look at "daveseslcafe" without any problems, since you are all posting on this website, but are there places where even this website might not be available in China?

Sometimes you'll find, according to where you are, that there is another level of 'censorship' caused not by actual censorship but by your own ISP's incompetence. I cannot access, for instance, www.rottentomatoes.com which is completely not-censored in China. I used to look at it all the time in Wuhan. There are a few other sites that this is true of, like the West ham site www.kumb.com

Both these pages are allowed in China yet my ISP will not allow them for some unknown reason. Perhaps the ISP boss is a rabid movie-hater and Tottenham fan. We'll never know.

It IS bloody annoying though!

There is so much on the internet that I dont usually feel restricted by censorship.

Jeff, why would you go on those filthy porn sites, when you can visit one of those discos or bars with some lovely Chinese gals. Unless you are really, I mean really hard to look at, they won't mind you. And, chances are that after a little "conversation" they'll be willing to sacrifice their virginities even with you. Smile

So, why don't you save your eye sight for the real stuff

Now, I uderstand that Internet services in China are a problem at times, sometimes or shall I say more than sometimes. Any "services" in China are rather difficult to understand from a western point of view, but those Internet ones are with problems from a few sources. Recently, I had an Internet provider changing my Internet connection that totally s*cked and he did not really justify the need for changing that connection number Confused

I guess that the safest way to use our computers is to play those computer games only.
