Teachers? If you're working for a language course provider you ARE NOT a teacher. Teachers work in schools.

Stop moaning and bltching and either get some qualifications & experience and become a teacher - or accept that you're being paid to be white and entertain rich kids.

You could work for Shines and entertain for 30 hours a week for 8juta, and live in a room in the school - that does NOT make you a teacher Laughing

I'm not saying I wouldn't employ a teacher with no degree, and we all know that simply possessing a degree is no guarantee of someone being able to teach.

My concern is that I'd rather not have someone working for or with me who routinely lies about their credentials.

Right on Gugel, who needs liars/bs'ers?

Do any of you have stories about the MOST unqualified TEFL "teachers"? I know a couple of French Canadians who not only speak English as a second language, but have no degree, no certificate, and no knowledge of English grammar, but yet do okay for themselves here working as teachers. They've been here long enough, and their personalities are such that students and staff like them. So they get by.

Chezzies quite right Beefy, you sound really happy with your lot, that's why you dig almost everyone on this forum. I don't envy you one bit.

Chester, why do you deny us a chance at happiness? You look so buff in that policeman's uniform... x

i know a lot of people who worked with you are very curious about "your real" credentials.

With all your experience in language school, you finally agree that you ARE NOT a teacher. You finally accept that you're being paid to be white and entertain rich kids.

Teachers have an Education degree.

Stop bitching everybody because you have a degree, it doesn't make you a teacher. Rolling Eyes

Teachers have an education degree? So if you have a degree in something OTHER then education, you're not a teacher? Thats not totally accurate...my college professors have their bachelors and masters in fields pertaining to the subject their teaching....which isn't education.

Although, I do agree that having a degree doesn't make you a teacher.

I can only assume that a) you've got the wrong guy or b) you are trying to be a klutz, Mr/Ms Gila.

Think you'll find my degrees and TESOl are in perfect order - you likewise?

Just keep on taking the tablets...

As Jack Black says: "Those that can't do, teach, and those that can't teach... teach gym."

Kind of reminds me of John Torr, if anyone here knows him.

....oh no no no ...DO NOT ENVY ME!!!!!...you are right not to. just entertain me. your recognition of my posts here are all that i need. your replies are worth far more than the 2 minutes of chuckles i get from reading them.

i'm sorry to interupt the "degree= teacher" debate going on but i wanted to clear up some previous things that have been said.

1. "...you should congratulate me..."( i think this was expressed to gugel)..congratulate you for quitting?...for breaking a contract you agreed to?..for probably making life even worse (if it was as bad as you said it was there) for the current and future teachers?..the only people even remotely connected to your runner that should get congratulated are the teachers that completed their contracts there and then moved on.
2.".. there are no smutty photos from gado2..".... i know that...everyone knows that....we all play the sarcasm here chester...you of all people should know that.
3."..thats why you dig almost everyone on this forum..."... i will have to admit that i'm not exactly sure where you were going with this. if you meant that i "take shots" at alot of people on this forum, then you are wrong( i don't think this is what you meant). the only people i did that to was papillon and a bit at you...i do want to do it to happy_me sometimes but there is no way that he is a native speaker and because of this i won't slag him for his seemingly abstract comments, sp. errors(he just makes way too many) and claims ( at times).
HOWEVER...
if by "dig" you mean that i like most of the people on this forum, you would be right. i know from previous posts that the feeling would not be overly mutual but thats alright..most of us here can all move on (by this post i appear to not be one of them).
we all know that you think of them (and me, obviously) as sleeze loving, so transparent it hilarious, running from something, can't get laid at home needledicks, but if you weren't so quick to judge them/ me, you would see that they/i were just being honest ( and at times harsh) in the replies to your posts
4. " chezzies quite right..."..if he was or he wasn't, you wouldn't be the one to know
5." i hope you enjoy your career in teaching esl.".......i am no longer teaching esl, i teacher history and geography. due to the new curriculum that we started this year i do teach the occasional english class when the local teachers don't feel up to par with the lesson topic. no difference though, same job, different subject matter........

i will take this time to say sorry for this drawn out hijacking of the current debate but my post is now over.....

...i agree with the comment that said " right place, right time and if they like you, you're set" ( or something along those lines)...being in the right place and knowing the right people is the best way to make vertical career moves here ...almost anywhere for that matter. Wink

Java Gila - my primary students have a better understanding of the English language than you. with all due respect, you should be posting on the Student's Forum.

I have nothing but respect for those who have BA Education, I wish I had one. The alternative is returning to the UK to do a PGCE in some rundown city school - no thanks.

No educational degree, but I do have an education + a degree. You have neither.

How's the job hunting going on the Middle East forums? How's the job hunting going regarding the International schools in kalimantan? - No degree = No job for you chump! Laughing
