What's the TEFL situation like in Dakar, Senegal? Or even the rest of Senegal for that matter.

A bit of bad news Im afraid. Senegalese are concerned with France & Spain, so English is still not very much on demand.
I spent some time in Dakar, here are my impressions on EFL teaching:

-The British Council.

The End. If youre hard pushed you can try some of the private schools (normally Catholic), they pay well but tend to want teachers with French teaching credentials. Tricky.

If you do sort out something, there are plenty opportunities for private tuition, normally well-off kids and professionals. Post your add in key spots, i.e.= supermarkets and around Pompidous banks and real-estate agents, "salon du the", etc. You could live off just that, but you wont secure any residence permits.

As for Dakar & Senegal, its beautiful, rocky, lively, friendly, easy going. Paradise by far. BUT... traffic out of Dakar is terrible (3-4 hours for a 50 km strip...), traffic in Dakar is worse, and the city is VERY expensive by African standards.

PS: try St. Marie d'Hanne, 20 km out of Dakar, theres a college there where they sometimes want teachers. Also, Senghor University in Dakar can be worth it. British Embassy in Dakar are useless, dont even bother asking help there...
