What's been going on? i feel like a character in a film, who has returned to his home town to find it devestated by apocalypse or, um, men on horses. Lots of the old crew have vanished and the place seems torn apart by argument and bloodshed. Do I need to go on some kind of quest? Would a grail help?

Seems pretty tranquil here, compared to how it was! Smile

I think R is refering to all the locked threads on the China forum. Two appeared last night.

I wish I could tell you, R. By the way nice to see you're back. In need of argument, nomadder, maybe we could start the "friendly disagreement thread."

Edit. If you're going to edit me at least leave me grammatically correct and not self accusatory. Wink

Aw, heck, more edit: In all my 600+ posts, why hack me here?

Think I'd just rather watch thanks. Laughing

Why does China attract so many argumentative types? On the Japan one they seem to be a little boring except the people who also post on this forum.

Oh Ben the rain is in eastern Canada. We haven't had much of it for weeks except the hurricane and strong storm recently. More trees down.

Wolf is correct I think, about what R is referring to in his original post in this thread.

One entire thread (more than one?) in the "off-topic" China forum has been completely deleted. That one was up to 5 pages, with about 1100 (+) views I think, before it was deleted. A fairly large number of posts, it appears, have also been axed. Also, as Wolf noted, 2 or 3 threads have been locked, no more posts allowed.

As the original poster of one of those threads, I'd like to know why it was locked and deleted too. It certainly appears that to be a concerned citizen of the Dave's ESL community is not accepted.

The most argumentative types we have had in this forum:

- kvido benak: Knew China although based in Czech; disliked the PRC
and its ESL scene, disliked CHinese girls even more strongly;
- Linda: presumably female, presumably in China; avowed lesbian;
- Sun Yang: Presumably male, presumably in China, avowed gay;
Sun Yang's ire can easily be roused by remarks unflattering for
the PRC;
- Hubei_Canuck: Formerly based in Taiwan, then presumably in
China; would easily get into fighting mode if a red flag with 5 little
yellow stars was being waved in front of him;
- Bertrand: Alias "Dr." linguisticus variously identified as "Anthony",
presumably based in Hong Kong, PR of China although vituperating
against his host nation and fellow ESLers working north of his base;
claimed to be German speaker (but produced a lousy impression in
his misguided attempts at interpreting German "Augenarzt"); acquired
a certain fame for his/her unshakable faith in HK NET's;
- wanderlust: Presumably based in Hong Kong, PR of China although
vituperaqting against his/her host nation and fellow ESLers working
north of his base; flaunts his/her "American accent" even though
he/she is not a native English speaker; occasionally lapses into
boer German aka Afrikaans;
- Winston SMith: Probably alter ego of wanderlust.

Defining characteristics of these personae:
- Live a short public life in various forums, then die a sudden violent
death as if wiped out by heart attack!
- All obsessively egotistic!
- ...and unbelievably narcisstic!

Are we dealing with one case of continued reincarnations?

Johnslat:
Thanks for the info on the grail.You are a wealth of information.

Nomadder:
You are in eastern Canada.The leaves must have turned there now if there are any left on the trees after the hurricane passed through.

You're right. The leaves are beautiful just now.

Whatever happened to Sunaru &/or Cobra? They liked to stir up some dust sometimes. Or was it one person chasing himself? Laughing

Another thought.
So if according to Roger most of the argumentative types are living in China or thereabouts does that mean that the stresses of living in a Chinese place have made these people angry?
