Are they still requiring a stool sample for the medical test outside of Taipei? Please answer only if you have taken the foreign teacher medical test outside of Taipei County recently. Thanks!

I've been living outside Taipei County for over two years and they've never requested a stool sample. I believe that requirement was done away with some time ago.

I took the medical exam again two weeks ago.

I used to do my medical exams at the Jen-Ai Hospital, oddly enough, on Jen-Ai Rd. in Taipei.

It was so great! I would go in, and explain I wanted a medical exam. They would start to set me up with a slew of appointments, and I would explain I didn't want a medical exam for myself; I wanted one for _work_.

Oh! they exclaimed, and directed me downstairs. There, I was through the basics in about ten minutes. They checked to see if I had color vision, if my teeth were more or less there, if I had a pulse, etc. Bam- done! Then upstairs for an "x-ray" and a blood test. Well, for a session in which some blood was extracted, at least. On the spot I was given my documents, which said "Cheng-ch'ang" (normal) for everything, and I was done. I used to do this during my lunch hour. I forget exactly how much it was, but it was a bargain.

The key thing was always to make clear why I was there.

To my knowledge, stool samples are only ever required for long term resident visas, like permanent resident and joining family resident visa applicants. Standard, one year, work sponsored resident visas only require a physical, xray, blood test and vision check. If stool samples were ever required for a standard one year resident visa aplicant, it would have been a very long time ago; I was never asked for one in all my time there.

It does seem like the stool sample requirement has finally been done away with. Down in Kaohsiung it was an occasional requirement. Some years they wanted it, and some years they didn't. I wasn't asked for it for the last three years...until I applied for the JFRV, which still requires one.

KaiFeng, thanks for ignoring the question and the prerequisite of being outside of Taipei. FYI, they knew why I was there and they knew why all the other foreign English teachers were there, or perhaps the scores or foreign teachers I knew were all silly. But this was Kaohsiung and Chiayi back at the turn of the century.

Thanks all those who read and answered the question Laughing
