Has anyone used this company to get out to Japan? Would you recommend it or would you suggest organising things yourself?
Thanks |

Never heard of them. Could you post some information about them and maybe their website so that we can look them over?
Cheers cupcake. |

Sure, the website is http://www.realgap.co.uk/, they charge 600 which includes Help with Working Holiday Visa, 4 nts hotel accommodation, Orientation session, Help finding accommodation, Advice for Foreign Registration Card Help finding language school, Job search service in Tokyo and Free internet and email access
I'm not really interested in this myself, I think I'd rather find work before going out to Japan, but my boyfriend is considering it as he thinks it may help him get work as he doesn't have a degree... |

For information on a WHV (working holiday visa) check out http://www.uk.emb-japan.go.jp/en/visa/work_hol.html
The Gap program gives you 4 days in a hotel, and then you're off to an apartment. Not much time there. Try a Google search for "Tokyo Guest House" or search this forum. You can get off the plane, and a few hours later be in a guest house room. A guest house is shared living. Usually you have your own room, but share the kitchen and bathroom with other people. Some people have had good experiences, some haven't. For the short-term, they can be good. Many have Internet access in the room if you have a computer.
I wonder what the orientation session will consist of? They'll probably give people some maps of the area, and the contact information for some jobs.
I'm not really sure what kind of advice they can offer you on getting a foreign registration card. You go to your city office and find the desk that says "Foreign Registration." A few hand gestures and you should be able to get the application form.
For help with finding a language school, you can do an Internet search. Buy a survival book before coming for some phrases that will help the first few weeks.
The job search help is nice, but you can do quite a bit from the UK. Check out http://www.gaijinpot.com/
Finally, about the Internet access, there are plenty of Internet cafe's in Japan. You could spend a few weeks in there before you'd exhaust the 600 pounds this company is charging for basic advice.
Hope it helps. |
