|
|
Folks:
What is the word on St. Laurensia this year? Ghost was "shortlisted" in 2005, but had to decline because of a contract commitment in Taiwan.
Ghost was slated to go to the UAE, but is now having serious doubts about that, because of serious problems in the school in the UAE where it was due to teach.
Now, St. Laurensia comes back into the picture. From previous ideas, the place (St. Laurensia) appears to evoke mixed reviews, with some teachers appearing satisfied and others not. Some teachers have said that the lack of air con is a factor.....although, one understands there are fans.
What about the actual pay scales and annual leave allowances?
Thanks for any information

Mr. 3rd person, I had an interview there 2 years ago looked ok but the pay at 9juta seemed a bit low, and I really didn't care to live in a place where everyone was trying to look rich, its not the real indo it's the western indo look.
Is far as no a/c just the small thing in life, I havent had a/c in a year now.
P.S you can do better. |

Thanks for the reply, and you mention that 9juta is low pay for Indo....how much would that translate to in U.S. dollars? and how much do you feel a teacher can save at St.Laurensia..?
Also do they take care of accommodation there (is it paid for?).
Thanks for the information, and nice quote, about the tent....

I worked three years at a school near there, which is in every way a far worse school than Laurensia, but also in Tangerang, a satelite of Jakarta, so many refugee teachers from Laurensia were there. These teachers liked neither place. I've been told Laurensia is a place where the students are always right, and you will be reprimanded if you dare to criticize or order them about. so how do you get them to do homework? There's also quite a bit of god-bothering to be done as it's a Catholic school. For 9 million you could work at an ESL only school - "Engliish Courses" as the Indonesians call such places. You'd get the same money or more, work less hours, probably in the afternoon and evenings only, and have a lot less responsibilities and troubles.

...i disagree... if you look hard and long enough you'll find that this forum has/had people that will complain about damn near everything.... i can't prove that such a complaint has ever been made here ( i am simply too lazy to do that) but i am confident in its existance.
p.s.-- there are also people here that are quick to point out minor spelling mistakes and such..... i am not one of them |

Though I've never worked for St. Laurensia, I have lived in Alam Sutera, so maybe I can help in that department. Basically, married guys (and gals) tend to like it because it's a very family-oriented community, relatively safe and clean, with a sports center and lots of playgrounds and open areas, and not very expensive. If you have a car, getting to West or South Jakarta is quick and easy and maids and drivers come cheap.
But single bule friends of mine that have lived here have generally hated it, especially if they didn't have a car. There is little nightlife in the Tangerang area, so you could expect to spend well over Rp100,000 just getting back and forth to a watering hole in Jakarta on a Friday night. This could really cut into the 9 or 10 million that I've heard they pay there. I've also had a former colleague living out here who had issues with being discreet in bringing "lady friends" to his house for the evening. It's not like living in Jakarta, where people generally mind their business about such things.
Hope I've helped! |
