I have to decide on a place to spend the Chinese New Year. I want a place with plenty of fireworks and parades. I love theater and Chinese acrobatics. What is there to do in Taiwan? How would it compare to the festivities in Hong Kong or Singapore? Where is the best place to spend the CNY?

For me - easy!

In Thailand, at the beach, drinking a bottle of Singha! Laughing

If you come for Lunar New Year, what about checking out the Taipei Lanter Festival at Chang Kai-shek Memorial Hall? I think it's in February.

Come, and enjoy the beloved Taiwanese snacks of congealed pig's blood, stinky tofu and chicken a ssholes.

I pretty much agree. I'm not that crazy about Thailand, but it is a
great place to spend Chinese New Year. Especially when you consider
what else there is.

Okay, I'd pick a Chang over a Singha anyday. Oh, about the beach, I don't like them. I know a lot of people do and Thailand is great for beaches. However, I tend to find them incredibly boring. Morever, I get sun poisening worse than anyone I've ever met. Combine that with salt water and I'm going to spend my vacation painfully in the hospital. NOT fun!!!

Anyway, my plan is to go to Thailand at the end of January to the end of February. I want to take a few days to go to either Taiwan, Singapore or Hong Kong. I hear that Taiwan has great parades and fireworks. I want Chinese theater, acrobatics etc. I don't think Thailand would be the best place to spend CNY if I want to see those types of things.
