The last train from Osaka to Kobe leaves at 12:27am. The last train from Kobe to Osaka leaves at 12:35. Sannomiya and Osaka Stations are 30km apart from each other (according to the JR train website), so it would cost waaaaay more than 5000 yen to get home by taxi.

What most people do if they miss the last train is hang out at a bar, sing karaoke, or crash at a 24-hour family restaurant. Staying out until first train is a common ritual here, although that will totally screw you over for the next day. Once you're a bit older and have calmed down a bit, you'll get used to coming home on the last train.

Kobe and Osaka are both good places that offer pretty much the same things. Kobe has a lot to do. Osaka has a lot to do. I would argue that Kobe has a higher concentration of things to do, given its smaller size. Osaka is the third largest city in Japan, however (after Tokyo and Yokohama), so there are obviously going to be more things to do there. Kobe has more of an international feeling to it, however.

Ha! Well, I'm 30 and it's still on my mind......

I'm not a big fan of staying out all night, but I also don't like the early nights. My solution has been to live right downtown in Tokyo so that I can take taxis. Rent is a bit high though.....

I'll probably do the same thing over there.
