| Please don't ask them to spell this out or paint a picture. It's all too clear....I've never heard it said this way before, though. |

| I was trying to figure out if it was homoerotic imagery or a rather indirect way to spell out men's interest in women. |

| But it's all about savings ... can singles in Asia save 75% of their gross salary? ... and we're not talking 300 or 500 club here ... |
I would say that one who had a few overtime hours should be able to save 66 percent of their income in Korea. If you have an M.A., you can get a university job. With 4-8 hours a week of overtime you would make about $3000 US or more. You only need $1000 a month and less if your house is provided. I think that $400 US a month for food and $400 for going out on weekends is plenty. That would mean a savings of $2200 out of $3000. That would be a savings rate of 73 %. |

I have an MA in TESL but have yet to put it to use because the job descriptions of those requiring an MA nowadays seem to be less than my current position.
I work as an ALT in Japan and earn roughly US$30,000 per annum. This involves about 12-15 contact hours per week with the rest of the time free to make use of free Internet access, printers, paper, etc. Subsidised rent and use of car are also included in the package. To supplement the income I teach an additional 10 classes per week which brings in an additional $15,000.
Married with two children I find we save about 30% of my gross income. |

Can I comment with "only" an M.Ed. and PGCE in TEFL?
I have spent five years in Saudi and six years in Korea.
If I need to save money - and could find the right job I would go to Korea before I would go to Saudi - or the Middle East.
I might save a little less per month in Korea - but my quality of life would be FAR higher than anywhere in the ME.
Yeah, I know Dubai is nice - but it's not that nice. A "normal" life is still a bit of a struggle even in the "liberal" ME.
Huge nice apartments aren't all there is to life. Net savings is important, but Korea can come very close to the ME in that area. |

| Ted, which would you say was the best for a family with young children. I have no experience of KSA or Korea. However I thought that Qatar would be a good choice(2 years there). My mrs has experience of Korea(2 years) and the ME(oman) and she'd prefer UAE/Qatar over Korea. Any thoughts? |

If you have kids, the equation is different.
Perks in Korea rarely provide for the schooling of your children. Perks in the ME do - and usually you get far better housing in the ME. So . . . that's where I would look if I were in that situation. |

That's right, I agree.
As I gain a better understanding of what kinds of teaching positions are available, I see tha the M.E. isn't the only place to earn and save good money.
Many North-East Asian TEFL'ers can earn and save just as much as their M.E. brothers and sisters and in addition have more life-style choices. |
