Got an e-mail of rejection from Interac today. I don't know what they were looking for and they wouldn't tell me why I didn't get the job but all I can say is that, rejecting somebody with high school teaching qualifications and experience, a TESOL certificate, five years overseas teaching experience and a Masters in Linguistics, they must have had some pretty impressive candidates. But now they are advertising again. What gives? |

You sound way overqualified for Interac. Don't worry about it. |

Consider yourself lucky.
Given Interac's past behaviour, I think they want people they can dominate over people who are proven teachers.
I remember, as I was parting company with them, my supervisor told me that I was chosen because they felt I would put up do what I was told regardless. |

Being rejected by Interac is like getting rejected by the Gestapo.
They were probably scared of your qualifications, they like people they can push around. A crap company, well left alone. |

You have qualifications that are not necessary for the positions they offer. They shouldn`t reject you on this basis alone. Interac has many problems that it seems unable to remedy. The financial side remains poor. There are better companies out there. Try Altia, they pay in full and on time. Good luck! |

I second Altia- they seem to have more of a committment to educational quality than interac, and would probably love to hire someone who already has your qualifications and experience |

The positions and salaries offered by Interac do not match your qualifications. Simply put, they can't pay you what you deserve. If you're interested in continuing with high school work, there are many private high schools in Japan offereing employment. I believe the latest edition of ohayosensei.com had a couple listed. |

Isn't a more pertinent question why are you applying for Interac with your qualifications and experience? Apply for jobs at universities and international schools and get paid what you're worth by companies who value who you are. |

donfan, don't feel bad for not having obtained the teaching position. When I first decided to come to Japan, I was in the same position as you. I was rejected by all the "chain" schools. I think that they prefer hiring people fresh out of university, because they assume that they are young, naive and it's easier to mould them. You should apply with smaller schools, who tend to care more about the quality of education rather than the quantity. They also allow more creativity, and are less dictorial. I have complete freedom at the school I'm teaching at. On most days, I'm left completely alone which suits me just fine, since I'm a very responsible and independent person. Good luck with your job search and don't give up!!!! Grace |

Hi Experienced. I've never heard of, nor seen the film "Saving Grace". What's it about, and where's it from? Thanks. Grace |

Grace,
The movie is about a woman in the U.K. whose supposedly rich husband dies, but actually leaves her with a lot of debt. She finds an interesting way to raise a lot of money to meet the mortgage payments on her house.
It's a humorous movie with a strange twist at the very end. You should request it at the video shop.
P.S. It's MUCH better than working for Interac!! |
