I am interested to know more about the Jubail University College.

- What are their packages like? Is it like JIC (Stephen Jones, please advise)

- I've heard that they've asked some who are in Saudi to take the interview in London? Are they recruiting during the summer as well?

Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I hope this is not a dumb question, but does anyone know if this university actually exists? Supposedly, I am shortlisted for an ESL position here. Usually, I know when something seems suspect that is because it is suspect. However, so far, I have not been asked to send them money. That is why I do not automaticly assume it is a scam. If anyone out there has any information good or bad, please share it with me.
Thank you so much.

I have got a friend in UK, He was short-listed for a position with the Eng. Dept., and had a telephone interview with UCJ, they asked him to send a photocopy of his passport, and he still waiting for their reply!

"Offer of employment: The offer of employment for the teaching staff at UCJ includes:

Basic Monthly Salary: Senior Lecturer: S.R. 10557-16031= $ 2815-4274
Lecturer: S.R. 8495-13991 = $ 2265-3730
Instructor: S.R. 7410-12218 = $ 1976-3258

Allowances: This includes Relocation Allowance, Start-of-Service Gratuity, End-of-Service Gratuity; half a month's salary for each of the first five years of employment, and one month's salary for each of the subsequent years, and Transportation Allowance; S.R. 600 per month.

Housing: Every employee, single or with family, will be provided with a furnished housing unit. A housing allowance may be offered in lieu. "

It's Hajj now. Also remember that for all the oil in Saudi the wheels of bureacracy don't grind any the more smoothly.

What has probably happened to your application is that it is in the bowels of Personnel at the Royal Commission. The head of Personnel at UCJ (IB) used to be the guy at the RC who dealt with applications for JIC. A month or so ago he compiled a list of all the things sent to the RC in the last six months still pending a decision. When he complained bitterly about the delay the ex -JIC -ELC director pointed out that IB was only gettting a taste of the medicine he'd been doling out for the last eight years.

My advice is simply to phone and ask. Ask to speak to MH, the head of ELC, or to IB, head of Personnel.

The male section of the UCJ is housed in a grim looking corrugated former Saudi Telecom building in a non-entity suburb not far from the InterCon.Only old Saudi hands should apply, from what I've heard.

The present building is a stop-gap solution, though when the permanent building will be ready I don't know.

There are a bunch of University Colleges in the works right now, apparently Jubail is the 2nd. The first is Yanbu UC, where I work.

Now I assume the Royal Commission in Jubail operates the same as in Yanbu, so I can tell you this. I got a job offer in February and didn't receive a contract until July, and didn't get the visa documentation until August.

The hiring practices at the RC are (for lack of a better word) jackassed. They put everything off until the last minute, unaware that this appears very unprofessional. Indeed the RC shoots itself in the foot with its personnel department. I have pointed this out to a few people in the Yanbu RC but I doubt my friendly info was noted by anyone.

The RC receives about 500 applications a semester for English positions. I myself vetted them last year and 80% were completely unqualified. Unfortunately, with the deluge of applications, it ends up being a bit of a crap-shoot whether your resume will end up on the top of the pile.

This all being said, the RC is probably the best employer in Saudi once you actually have a contract in hand. If they have given you a job offer, you will indeed have a job come Aug 15th, so sit back and relax, and eventually the RC will get you here. They will simply put it off until the absolute last possible moment.

Well, the Saudi guys in the Royal Commission at Jubail are mostly decent guys .The real bad guys are some old timers among the teachers led by a Brit Pole who would inform on his grandmother to curry favour with whoever happens to be boss of the English Centre at JIC.
