The subject line says it all.
The quake apparently cut a major fiber-optic cable
that connects most of Asia with the rest of the world.
What's really spooky is the timing. The quake hit last night,
the 26th of December; the same day as the killer-quake
that struck off the coast of Indonesia back in 2004. |

From Thailand, many websites are inaccessible today.
Others, like Dave's - are just a lot slower than usual.
read this: Quake off Taiwan disrupts communications
Quote: |
A strong earthquake off Taiwan's southern coast damaged undersea cables, disrupting phone and Internet service Wednesday in much of Taiwan, China and Japan. The quake damaged two of the seven undersea cables near Taiwan used by several countries to route calls and Internet traffic. Hong Kong telephone company PCCW Ltd., which also provides Internet service, said the quake cut its data capacity in half. Many Internet users were unable to access Web sites in parts of America, Taiwan and South Korea. Calls to Taiwan were not going through. In China, Internet access was cut or had become extremely slow, said an official from China Netcom, the country's No. 2 phone company.

The connection here in Lanka is always so bad, I don't know if we're affected by the cable being cut or not. |

^ Good evening Mr Jones
If you have any connection at all ...
you're probably on a different network.
It has been sheer internet-hell today in Thailand;
took me over 4 hours to log on to Dave's this evening.
Luckily, I'm a patient old fart with a large bottle of cold beer.

This explains alot to me- I'm in the USA right now and not one of my chinese friends are on MSN since yesterday.
Usually there 15 or so chinese friends on MSN (most of them pretty girls...) and this is the 2nd day with not a chinese soul on the MSN. |
