I have an ARC and a mulitple entry sticker in the back of my passport. I'm going to travel during the Lunar New Year and want to know if I still need a ticket out of Taiwan to be able to re-enter the country.

Thanks,
Cat

Answer:

No, because your re-entry permit and resident visa show that you are a legal resident of the ROC and not a visitor. No ticket out is required because you live in Taiwan.

No problem and happy New Year, MomCat. I bet you're happy you don't have to pay for that unwanted extra ticket!

BTW, check to see if your re-entry permit (in your passport) is a single or multiple. Sometimes they give first year resident visa holders single use re-entry permits. They did that to me in my first year, at any rate. It just means that after you re-enter Taiwan, and you want to take subsequent trips out of Taiwan, you'll have to go to the police station and get another re-entry permit each time. I don't understand their reasons for doing this, they only seem to do this to first year people and maybe they've even stopped doing it, but it's best to check the validity of your re-entry permit just to be sure.
