I'm sure I posted a similar post many moons ago on a similar topic. FGT, the bonk/boink should be in Istanbul as it is the meeting of two continents |

As dmb so rightly states, Istanbul is the meeting place of 2 continents so I suggest that the London group and the Japanese should meet here! |

I was under the impression that "bonk" is the same as "bump" or "hit" (as in, "I bonked my head"). Perhaps it depends on where you are. No matter how innocuous you claim it to be, I cannot bring myself to call our meeting a "boink".
Incidentally Lajzar, "oral intercourse" could be interpreted to mean something sexual as well (where I live, anyway).
R, anytime after the 17th would work for me. I'll need a bit of notice, however, so I can keep the evening free and arrange for a chaperone. Is this meeting place in Central London or thereabouts? |

Oral intercourse, bonk and boink are all things in UK English slang that I very much doubt we aill all be doing at this meeting.
I can certainly find us a venue in central London. Near Victoria Station might work well for people (ie, it works well for me). A weeknight would be better than a weekend as the pub would be quieter, on the other hand harder for those who have to work. Opinions? What do people want? I can scout a venue next time I am up that way. the Harvard bar at the Grosvenor is great, but two double Jack Daniels came to about 12 last time I was there. Which is a bit much, really. |

R, check out that alt.usage.english link. It gives good directions to some of the bars used, and I can personally vouch for the food and drink (and prices) at those I attended. |

I don't know a thing about the bar/pub scene in London so I'll let you local guys decide the venue. Just keep in mind that I'll be travelling (probably by train) from Bexley. Something that's not too "out of the way" would be best for me.
During the week is also fine for me, as I'll be on vacation and won't have a curfew. I can't speak for the others, though (if any others are coming, that is). Leeroy? Will? Dyak? SueH? |

I can recommend a whole host of trendy bars that we can't afford...
In my local, the bouncers double as drug dealers - it's a relationship of convenience. So we could meet up, discuss teaching methodology, score an 8-ball, and check out Capergirl's sparkly trousers...
Hell, if any of you guys are ever in London - you know that you can always buy me a beer... |

Oh, and "bonk" does technically mean the same as "shag" - though we stopped using it 20 years ago. |

Do you remember when 'bonk' was briefly replaced by 'boff' during the pre-rehash of 'shag'? Though noun usage of 'boff' was less common.
London on a week-night sounds good... I couldn't bear the weekend, unless there was some funky jazz involved. |

OK, it appears that most of us are not going to be coming from central London but from other areas, so we might want to pick a more central locale for everyone. Any ideas? R, I think you are the farthest distance away from the rest of us...what do you think? |
