Hi,
I've searched the forums for info about opening a Polish bank account and I'm looking for more up to date information. These things change so quickly at times.
I'm an EU citizen and I don't have a residency card nor do I have official proof of address. Two banks - Pekao SA & Citibank - were mentioned as not requiring the above.
If anyone has recently opened an account with either of the above banks, or indeed any other bank, without a residency card or proof of address, I'd appreciate any info you can provide (plus the name of the bank you used).
Was the account quick and easy to open?
Is the online account system in English?
Can I transfer money to international accounts?
Can I pay bills etc. online?

I still use my Pekao SA account for everything you mentioned - international money transfers require going to a branch, but everything else is online and in English. Im not so happy with their service or monthly fees (took them three tries to change my address, and they rejected my mortgage application at the last minute due to their internal error, costing me a month.)
However, I cant imagine any bank anywhere opening an account for you without proof of address - I'd organise these as a priority (seeing as ID and a registered are legal requirements in Poland) |

I'm pretty sure that an EU passport is good enough for the first 180 days in Poland but a registered address is certainly a must-have if somebody wants to be legal!
Citibank are pretty good. Everything on the website and the automatic telephone banker is in English and there are always English speaking staff on the phone lines. BPH look pretty good so far - everything on the webiste is in English and there are usually English speakers on the phonelines. A monthly fee of 12.95zl you have an account which lets you use any ATM anywhere in Poland for free (Citibank is 5zl a month but ATM charges vary from operator to operator - can be up to 6zl).
Stay far far away from BKO BP! |

Thanks for the input Alex and Grrr.
Yes, the registered address will be sorted asap. The bank account is a little more urgent than that, but it seems that I'm trying to put the cart before the horse.
I'll do some footwork around some banks tomorrow.
