I don't think there was a dry eye in the house when the whole population of the train station broke into song with " Nusan Dorma" .Unique, totally unique, you all missed a magic moment akin to your team winning the cup .

Hmm is that anything like Nessun Dorma?

One of the finest performances of the Turandot I've ever seen was at the Aspendos Opera Festival 2004. Absolutely fantastic, third only to the 2003 staging of Madame Butterfly at the the British Royal opera house. (this whispering chorus almost made me wet myself): And Antonio Pappano's superb direction of Wozzeck at the same venue a year earlier. I've never really enjoyed opera on TV, I prefer to listen to it on my scratchy old records.

Manon Lescaut is on at AKM this month if you're a Puccini fan.

And Izmir has Idomeneo (Mozart) on January 13th and 16th, La Traviata (Verdi) on 27th February. The Opera House is small but worth a visit.

Idomeneo, definitelt one of Mozart's darker operas, although I doubt they'll be any severed head of Mohamad in this production.
