I'd prefer to hear from expat parents currently living in Dubai, or expat parents who've recently left Dubai on this one. . . . .
Which K-12 American, British, International or Bilingual (Arabic/English) schools should be avoided?
Thanks,
k. |

Since you are asking parents, your question is not clear... are you talking about putting your kids in... or getting a job there?
If you are asking about whether to work at a place, the parents are likely not the ones to ask advice from...

kdaca, if you're a parent seeking a school for your kids, it would be easier if you could share the names of schools in which you know your education allowance will cover, and then I can help you narrow down the search from there. You've got a lot of things to consider since your parameters pretty much include all non-governmental schools. Are you from the UK? US? What's deemed 'avoidable' by a UK parent, may be embraced by a Lebanese parent. As for only parents answering that question, I'm not sure this is the best forum for finding an answer.

Why would I be on a forum for ESOL educators asking parents who aren't ESOL educators whether or not I should take a teaching gig. I can see how my question wasn't 100% clear, but. . . . . |

Obviously you are new to Dave's or you would realize that all kinds of people ask all kinds of completely unrelated questions that have nothing to do with job conditions for EFL teachers - which is what this board is for mainly.
And I am still not exactly clear as to what your question is... Are you looking for a job or a school for your kids?
Your semi-rude response didn't make it any clearer... if you are looking for a school for your kids, why didn't you bother to answer Stoth's questions?

No lack of logic at all. If I want to change cars, I read car mags, go to dealers, but also ask people who drive the sort of cars I'm interested in whether they are happy with service, long-term reliability etc.
Asking TESOL aware parents which schools to avoid when looking for a job is a good idea: you'd get a different perspective from what you'd get from the school itself or from former and current staff. Maybe the OP wouldn't want to work in a place that parents don't like to send their children to.
Now, how many of us would send our own children to the institutions we work in? If we wouldn't, why not? And if we wouldn't, why do we stay working for these places? |
