Thanks very much to everyone who has responded to our posts so far. The countdown to when we leave has begun- 6 months and we'll be in the Czech Republic!
After much research we signed up to take the CELTA course at Akcent IH in Prague(with a one-week Czech Express course before that) and now we're trying to sort out our accommodations. We'll be studying from July 16- August 18. We've decided not to go with the school-provided accommodation because since there's two of us and they charge per person, not per apartment, it will be significantly more expensive. We've found a holiday apartment we like that's close to the metro line we need and only slightly over our budget. Our only question is, should we rent it for 3 months (all of July, Aug. and Sept.) or just for July and August?
We're planning to arrive in Prague in early July so we can see a bit of the city and adjust to jet lag before the course starts, so it's worth it to rent for all of July. We just don't know if we'll be "wasting money" renting for September as well, since we're actuallly hoping to find teaching jobs outside of Prague. We just don't know how long it will likely take to find work and when our jobs will start, so we're torn between spending the extra money for the security of having a place to live for one extra month and taking the chance and hoping we'll find work quickly and thus be in our new "hometown" by September.
While money is a concern, it is not our one and only deciding factor.
Any advice/suggestions from your experiences? How quickly do people typically find jobs (keeping in mind we're hoping to work outside Prague) after their CELTA course? We're willing to move to the town where we'll be working as soon as we have the job, even if it doesn't start until mid-late Sept. or even Oct.
Thank you all again; this website has been a huge help. |
