007, thanks for the clarification on Yusuf Islam, it seems a lot of rumors have been flying around about him. I have heard several over the years, but never had the real interest to research any of it. In addition, I would question the rumor that he supported the Rushdie fatwa. All in all, he seems like a decent guy, I always appreciated him as Cat Stevens and his recent contributions to 'ethical' music.

Regarding buying fatwas, that is exactly what I meant! It is called innuendo my secret agent friend. Wink

[007, where did this portion of your post come from? A source would be helpful. I don't think you wrote it yourself. Crediting your sources is always a good thing to do.

In fact, it came from here:

Yes, it came from the above link. May be it was a mistake from me not to credit the above source.

Are you really a teacher? or a student?

Cat Stevens Gives Support To Call for Death of Rushdie
By CRAIG R. WHITNEY

TONDON, May 22 -- The musician known as Cat Stevens said in a British television program to be broadcast next week that rather than go to a demonstration to burn an effigy of the author Salman Rushdie, ''I would have hoped that it'd be the real thing.''

The singer, who adopted the name Yusuf Islam when he converted to Islam, made the remark during a panel discussion of British reactions to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's call for Mr. Rushdie to be killed for allegedly blaspheming Islam in his best-selling novel ''The Satanic Verses.'' He also said that if Mr. Rushdie turned up at his doorstep looking for help, ''I might ring somebody who might do more damage to him than he would like.''

''I'd try to phone the Ayatollah Khomeini and tell him exactly where this man is,'' said Mr. Islam, who watched a preview of the program today and said in an interview that he stood by his comments.

I am both, a Mathematics teacher, and a Philosophy student.
In addition, I am a non native speaker.

I have a few questions about the various topics flying around on this thread.

1. Where is Tondon? This was from the first line of the article Cat Steven's above.

2. Who cares if 007 is a secret agent, the new James Bond, a student or a teacher, a native informant, a native speaker or not? Does being a native speaker and an English teacher give him more or less rights on this forum? On the Internet? In your college or place of employment? Get off your high horse British colonialists who still think their brand of English, or the color of their skin rules the world, and smell the qahwa!

3. Okay, so Cat Stevens converted to Islam and has some opinions. Its not the first or last time, and this article is dated 1989, do you suppose his opinion has changed by now? Is he entitled to change? An opinion? Once again, colonialists, not everyone thinks like you, and after years of colonizing and subjugating people to your imperialism and racism, I think people are going to be inclined to oppose the standardized view of the world England has pressed upon them for centuries!
