That's a handy link, Glenski. From that I found this:
http://www.aeonet.com/application/contract.html

>>1. Exclusivity
The teacher agrees to work exclusively for AEON during the contract period. |
The first line in AEON's Contract Stipulations and Benefits is invalid, illegal and unenforceable. There are quite a few other problems with their online contract, but come on, you'd figure that the first line would at least be legal. I'd go through the other illegalities, but it might be better to start a new thread.
AEON is run by idiots who want other idiots to move halfway around the world to get screwed by them. Stay away from AEON. |

| The teacher is responsible for up to 55,000 yen of rent each month. AEON pays the amount over 55,000 yen |
Wow, when did Aeon's rent cap change to 55,000 yen? I came to Japan just last year and rent for my Aeon shoe box is capped at 42,000 yen per month. In fact, *full* rent for my apartment is only 50,000 yen per month. How long before Aeon ditch the rent cap altogether?

Airfare to and from Japan is to be arranged and paid for by the teacher.

Another change for the worse. Aeon will pay for a one-way ticket home when I leave, as stipulated in my contract signed just a few months ago.
It looks as if Aeon are finding lots of innovative ways to make teachers pay for those mandatory pension payments, eh?! Outrageous. |

I have just signed with Aeon, beginning in February 2007, after doing a lot of research into where I wanted to teach and the various ups and downs of the big four.
According to my contract - and the recruiter - under the 'new' pension/health insurance plan (don't jump on me, I know it existed before but it is new for Aeon to be forced to adhere to it), my rent will be capped at 47,000 per month. People can still opt to have it capped at 42,000 per month for their first year if they begin their contract with Aeon before May.
I have paid for my plane ticket to Japan, but my contract stipulates that my return ticket or the monetary equivalent will be paid upon completion of my contract. |

That's rather intriguing. Do those who choose the 42,000 yen rent option have to work more hours than those who go for the 47,000 yen option? |

No. But the teachers working on the 55,000 rent cap do work more, but they get paid more i believe. |

The teachers who have their rent subsidised over Y47,000 work 36 hour weeks. Those on the Y42,000 cap work a 29.5 hour week.
My guess is that the 55,000Y cap is possibly for teachers working in the inner suburbs/more expensive areas of Tokyo?
I suspect that the contract on the Aeon homepage is a little outdated or is specific only to certain Aeon offices; the stipulations and conditions look quite different to those on the contract I signed. |
