Hello,
I returned to the U.S.A. about 6 years ago after two stints of teaching English in Japan of 1 year and 2 years, respectively. I'm considering the possibility of returning to Japan for a while, but in the last 6 years I've become kind of a fitness freak, and I'd definitely like to continue this if I return. When I was in Japan before, I wasn't into fitness, so I never really noticed if there were any gyms or running groups. I've been scanning previous posts, and I see that there are many gyms in Japan, especially in the Tokyo area (which is where I'd like to go if I return). But in addition to gyms, I'm really into running these days. (I hope to run my first marathon next year.) I'm wondering if there are any running groups frequented by foreigners (especially in and around Tokyo). I did a search on the web, and I came up with Namban Rengo (http://www.namban.org/), but it doesn't seem that their website has been updated in a while, so I'm wondering if anybody's heard of them or any other running groups in Japan. Thank you. |

One group I know of is the Hash House harriers which are in Kobe which is a group of drinkers with a serious running problem, and a quick websearch led to a Sumo Hash Harriers operating in Tokyo
Here is the Sumo Hash (runners) link

I joined a gymed when I lived in Gunma. It was 6000 yen for weekends and evenings and 10,000 yen for unlimited.
Hope this helps.
