Hi guys,
I am finishing up my contract with the Universidad del Istmo in Ixtepec, Oaxaca and I am going to be moving up to either Guadelajara, Manzanillo or Colima in February, depending on the job availability and immigration. I have my FM3 but it expires on March 18th, does this mean that I have to be out of the country before that day? How long do I have to stay in the country once my FM3 has expired?
Next, I have a bachelor's degree in English and French, a TEFL certificate and 3 and a half years of experience teaching ESL in France, Korea and Mexico but I am worried about finding a job. Are there any schools I should stay away from? Is it possible to find a job in any of these cities around this time? A job that I can support myself on?

| I know someone with the answer to your FM3 question, I know he told me once, but I can't remember right now. Unfortunately he's currently out of the country until Monday. I'll ask the other teachers to see if they remember the story. |

| Regarding work visas, I believe there's a month's grace period after the expiration/renewal date to either leave the country or start the renewal process, although technically/legally a person can't work on an expired work visa or one that is in the process of being renewed (en tramite.) The en-tramite thing depends on the particular immigration office, however. I've always worked while en tramite without any problems from the local immigration office. They knew I was working, and I had their unofficial permission to do so. Now I don't have to worry about it, because immigration recently granted me permanent residency status. |

We had a teacher here whose FM3 expired right about the end of her contract. She told the immigration office here (first mistake!) that she wanted to look for teaching work in another state, and asked what to do. They told her to hand in her FM3 on/before the expiry date, and they would give her a letter with an FMT (provided she paid the FMT fee).
When she arrived in PdC, the immigration office there told her she didn't have to hand in her FM3, but could have received a temporary extension for 30 days while she looked for work in PdC. She told me the PdC immigration staff were a bit disgruntled that they had to go to the hassle of creating a new FM3 booklet. |

Thanks guys,
Do you know if those people had to pay for their extensions? I was told that I have to pay for the extensions.
Also, anyone know if there are jobs available in Guadalajara or Colima or Manzanillo? |

| apparently the fee is 1900 pesos. im in the thick of it now with my visa expiring on the 23 jan. |
