Good Day. My name is Shane. Shane Berezowski to be exact. Yes, it is a Polish name. I am from Vancouver, Canada, but my father was born in Edmonton Alberta. Canada's little Poland.

Anyway, I have been teaching English for 6 years mostly in Latin America (Brazi, Colombia, Mexico) I would love to go to Poland and experience Eastern Europe. I have a TEFL and tend to stay in a country for about 2 years before moving on.

I just turned 38, my father calls the mid to late thirties the "James Bond years".

I would like to live in a big city with a good nightlife. I enjoy a good drink, history, Bond movies and of course some beautiful women to look at and possibly meet.

Questions
Is there a good ex- pat community and how difficult would it be not having EU membership? I know that where there is a will there is a way.

How much money would I need to get started?

I am looking at heading there late this year. I had thought of Hungary, Czech Rebublic or Slovania, but decided on Poland because I had known such wonderful people back in Canada and the food is to die for.

Thanks for your help

There is a good-sized ex-pat community in any decent-sized town in Poland.

It costs about $1000 USD to live here for a month, give or take. If you had a job lined up before you came here, you would certainly want a month's wages to hold you over until you get paid. If you didn't have a job set up before coming, well, I guess you'd want a few month's living expenses in you pocket.

I think you're correct that you'd prefer Poland to Slovakia, Hungary, etc.
